Baylor Habitat

Let’s Start at the Very Beginning

Baylor Habitat for Humanity is recognized by Habitat for Humanity International as the first campus chapter of Habitat, founded in 1987. Since then, over 800 chapters in 35 countries have been created to serve both their local communities and communities abroad. Here in Waco, we have helped Waco Habitat for Humanity, our city affiliate, build more than 100 houses since 1987!

Why We Build

At Baylor Habitat, we support the mission of Habitat for Humanity International:

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. H4H seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. H4H has built more than 175,000 houses around the world, providing more than 750,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

As students attending a large and influential university, we believe it is our responsibility to educate the Baylor community on the need for affordable and decent housing in Waco and worldwide.

We also believe that the key to success lies in breaking down the barriers which divide our city. We want to bring people of different races, religions, economic levels, and backgrounds together for the common goal of bettering our community.
